International Give-Away: The Midnight Library

This week Matt Haig’s new novel came out, and what can I say: I am making some extra time to read this weekend! I have already started and the story draws you in like no other. And such a gorgeous cover, don’t you think?

Here is one of my favorite parts up until now:

Friendship: International Give-Away

[unpaid ad] This quotation by Walter Winchell essentially captures what this wonderful story about Alexander the mouse is about. He adores Willy the wind-up mouse and secretly wishes to be just as popular as Willy. Little does he know that Willy’s popularity is not going to last. How a lizard and a purple pebble come into play and how the friendship between the real mouse and the wind-up mouse develops can be discovered in this fantastic book by Leo Lionni, shining with fabulous collages.

Alexander and the Wind-up Mouse was originally published in hardcover by Pantheon Books, a division of Random House, already back in 1969. The message of the book, however, as well as the colorful collages are timeless. We love the story and  thus recommend it highly as most of the kids nowadays can still identify with the questions raised about friendship and popularity.

Eliot und Isabella

 

[Unbez. Werbung] Natürlich waren wir in den Sommerferien nicht ohne Lesestoff unterwegs! Den Sommer über haben uns die großartigen Abenteuer der beiden putzigen Rattenkinder Eliot und Isabella von Ingo Siegner begleitet. Hier am See in Grainau war der vierte Band der Reihe Eliot und Isabella im Finsterwald mit im Gepäck, und hat für viele Lacher (Bocky Bockwursts Begegnung mit der Schrotflinte) und gehörig Spannung gesorgt. (Was ist mit Opa Pucki geschehen?)

„Opa Puckis Hütte steht unter einem großen Baum am Ufer eines Weihers. Als Eliot und Isabella sich nähern, bemerken sie, dass die kleine Bank vor der Hütte umgekippt ist. Die Hüttentür steht sperrangelweit auf.“

Bei der Reihe handelt es sich um ganz wunderbare Vorlesebücher, mit viel Witz und Abenteuer, bei denen das Vorlesen so richtig Spaß macht und die Kinder fast gar nicht abwarten können, das nächste Kapitel zu lesen bzw. zu hören. Und noch eins! Und noch eins! ❤

Toller Schreibstil, viele lustige Reime (Eliot dichtet gern) und sehr ansprechende Illustrationen verleihen den Romanen um die Rattenkinder eine herzlich lebendige Quirligkeit und wir sind in den letzten Wochen in der Tat zu richtigen Eliot und Isabella Fans geworden.  Mittlerweile sind auch alle vier bisher erschienenen Bände als Hörbücher hier eingezogen.

Falls ihr die Abenteuer noch nicht kennt, müsst ihr sie euch unbedingt auf eure Leseliste für gemeinsame Lesezeit setzen, sonst entgeht euch ein wirklich fantastischer Vorleseschatz!

Die drei älteren Abenteuer Eliot und Isabella und die Abenteuer am Fluss, Eliot und Isabella und die Jagd nach dem Funkelstein, sowie Eliot und Isabella und das Geheimnis des Leuchtturms sind ebenfalls beim Beltz & Gelberg Verlag erschienen, und wie Eliot und Isabella im Finsterwald (2016) beim Buchhändler deines Vertrauens bestellbar.
